All over the world mammals are living in rivers, lakes, and streams. Most of these mammals are excellent swimmers and some, like the beaver, build their homes IN the water!

Unit Thirty-Six

A beaver’s home is called a lodge. They make the mound out of trees, twigs, leaves, and mud. It has an underwater entrance and once the winter comes the mud holding the lodge together will

freeze, making it almost impossible for predators to get inside.
