The Oryx is a nocturnal animal and rests during the day while it is hot, and looks for food and water during the cooler night. Like the camel, it too can vary its body temperature and wait a very long time for water.

Desert animals must have these special adaptations in order to survive in such a harsh environment. The desert temperature can reach 120ºF and the

chance for drinking is few and far between.

Desert animals also tend to have long ears. They use the long ears to radiate heat from their bodies, keeping them cooler in the hot desert sun.
